Throughout the article, it discusses the difference between the stock crisis when Hoover was president and when Obama started presidency. The stock crash wasn't nearly as bad when Obama was president. But the changes during the two times are drastically different. Hoover increased the unemployment from 3.1 to 23.5 percent in the span of three years. Obama increased it from 9.4 to 8.2 within the same time frame. Obama was also able to improve the GDP and Hoover decreased it dramatically. Looking at the information provided, I can see that Obama was able to help the economy and Hoover wasn't able to. This to me, however, is understandable due to how poor conditions were during Hoover's presidency in comparison to Obamas

I think that the article has some great points. It talks about how much higher the unemployment rate was when Hoover was in office versus now. I think that the situations between Hoover and Obama are very different. I think the biggest difference between the two are the time periods. Hoover was in office during a time period where there was less materialistic people and less of "keeping up with the Jones", whereas now, when Obama is in office, there is so many materialistic people and having the best of the best. The two handled their situations differently. Hoover sort of sat back and said that it was enviable, while Obama is at least attempting some reforms and such.

I think that this article is kind of harping on both presidents. It talks about how President Obama had the slowest job increase since Hoover. But the article also talks about how Hoover significantly increased the unemployment rate while significantly decreasing the gross domestic product. They both struggled with the crashes and they both could have improved in more than one area. It does however say that the clock for improvement started quite a bit earlier for Obama.

I thought this article contained a lot of information. It does a really nice job of comparing President Obama to President Hoover. Most people compare president Obama to more recent presidents. Those presidents didn't have to face the conditions that Obama did. The president who had to face rough conditions was Herbert Hoover during the Great Depression. The unemployment rate under Hoover was almost three times as much as it was under Obama. When Hoover was in office, the GDP went down by over 25%. With Obama, the GDP went up, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average went up also. People give Obama a lot of criticize; however, he has done some things that have benefited America. Both president had great ideas on handling the problems. In the end, Obama 's plan turned out to be more effective.

This article did a really nice job with comparing Obama to another president that went through the same type of situation that he did. Rather than knocking Obama down because he has not necessarily been as successful as recent presidents, it supports him and uses Hoover to show Obama’s progress, a president who actually went through the same situation as Obama. The article compares the unemployment rates when each of them were in office, the G.D.P, and the increase/decrease of stock market shares. For all three of those Obama did a better job of reestablishing the economy because of his faster working pace and willingness to try new things, unlike Hoover.

Obama definitely acted more on his economic crisis than hoover did in his. Obama made policies that had a direct impact on the economy Hoover however did not make such policies he practiced more hands off policies. Hoover also tried to make the depression sound like a part of economic living. Which it is, the economy does fluctuate; however, the great depression was not just an average fluctuation. Hoover also tried to rally the country together to buy things and and have confidence in the economy. This should work in theory but it really didn't.

Within the article it does a great job of comparing President Hoovers time in office to President Obama's. Within 3 years, President Hoover raised unemployment from 3.1 to 23.5 percent, where as, Obama decreased unemployment from 9.4 to 8.2 percent. During Hoovers time he also decreased GDP by over 25 percent while Obama increased it by almost 7 percent. This doesn't surprise me due to the type of conditions that Hoover faced while in office. I agree with Ana when she says that people mostly compare Obama to more recent presidents, but those presidents didn't have to go through what he did. Unlike Hoover, Obama was, in fact, able to help the economy as best as he could.

I think that this article is very informative and does a very good job in comparing Obama with a president which had almost the same situation and the most recent one is Hoover. However, today a lot of people compare Obama just with the recent presidents which isn't right because they had different situations. On thing that Obama did really good is that he brought up the Dow Jones by a total change of 63.9 while it went down by 83.2 when Hoover was president. This is one of the things which were said in the article but there are a lot of more examples.

It was interesting to see how Obama and the recent recession was compared to the greatest economic downfall that our nation has seen in the Great Depression. With many people criticizing Obama and his struggle to improve the economy at a fast enough pace, the article does a good job of pointing out that in comparison to a very similar situation, he really did a good job in helping our nation recover. Compared to what Hoover did, or in reality, didn't do, Obama excelled in making the economy start to rise again. It was interesting to see just how much worse the economy got during Hoover's presidency, while Obama only had slight declines and ended up with positives such as getting unemployment to fall. After reading this article, it is easy to see that Obama's concepts did work, maybe not to the extent that would have like to have been seen, but things got better in his term, while Hoover only caused the Depression to spiral downward

This article not only showed the similarities and differences in the economic recessions between presidents, but it directly compared two presidents that are known for their slow recovery habits. The article claimed that Obama had, initially, more to deal with than Hoover; it stated that the worldwide equity prices fell more in 2008-2009 than 1929-1930. In my opinion, I would have to say that they both did take a long time to recover, but they were serving their presidency at some of the most difficult times. The statistics and results from the recessions lead me to believe that Obama made more of an effort to accomplish a better economy. However, there were policies from both presidents that were questionable.

The article showed some similarities and differences between Obama and Hoover that where pretty interesting. The position Obama was in was different from Hoover's, in that the government had the economies back. However, the drop that Obama experienced turned out to be even steeper than Hoover's. Obama took action and was able to keep the recession a recession and not a depression. Hoover waited too long, not thinking the depression as going to last and lost the hearts of the America people. Today, Americans think of Hoover as a disappointment while Obama has mixed views.

I think that it's crazy about the fact that there were parts of the 2008 collapse was worse than the Great Depression in 1929. You think of the name Great Depression and just assume that it was the worst depression there was all around. Also, I thought it was interesting that people said Obama did such a bad job when in fact he was able to lower the unemployment levels to the lowest they have been and increase the GDP by one of the largest percentages. Too many people were looking at how much time it took him to accomplish what he had instead of looking at those things that he did accomplish.

This article compared the Great Depression to the Great Recession and the presidents during these time periods, Hoover and Obama. In the beginning of the article they point out a few similarities between the two presidents. They explain how both were presidents during a stock market crash and how they both used similar tactics to get them out. However, the author makes very strong and interesting points about how the unemployment rates were very different between the Great Depression in 1929 and in 2008. Also each president contributed differently to the GDP, Obama increased it while Hoover decreased America's GDP. There are very similar and different aspects about Obama and Hoover and how they reacted to their economic downfalls of their time.

The article talked about the great depression and unemployment from eighty years ago and from just a few years ago back in 2008. It also talked about Hoover and Obama when they were the president of the united states. When Hoover was president things were not going well because there was a stock market crash the same thing happened when Obama was president. Hoover and Obama used similar ways to get them out of the great depression. However when Hoover was president the unemployment rate was a a lot worse compared to when Obama was president in 2008.

Reading the Hoover vs. Oboma article brought me to the conclusion that the situations of the economy during the years of 1929 and also again in 2008 were not at it's best. Otherwise known as the Great depression and the Great Recession. A main difference why we prevented another great depression such as the one that occurred previously in history was due to Oboma and his "safety net" which softens the fall for whoever was effected by it. That is one thing president Hoover did not have. The safety net eases the impact and also gets the government more involved whereas Hoover thought Americans should pick themselves up and try to fix the worldwide problem without the interference of the government. Another way Oboma handled the situation different than Hoover did was that when the economy started to downward spiral he acted sooner to the clock of recovery. I think the situations were very different mainly because of the time period, things were a lot different 8 decades ago than they were in 2008 and the evolution of the way people invested their money is better now than how careless people did in the 20's.

Both Obama and Hoover have held the presidency during an economic collapse, and are partially to blame for its effects. Presidents before them have affected the economy, too, but what is it that Hoover and Obama have in common with how they handled their unfortunate situation? Well, the article states that unemployment went up a little then down in Obama’s presidency so far, and that unemployment skyrocketed in Hoover’s term. Although this appears to laud Obama, there also are more safety features involved in the economy than there were back in Hoover’s time. The article also displays charts featuring the raised G.D.P and Dow Jones industrial average under Obama and lowered under Hoover. According to these findings, it would first appear that President Obama has more of a hold on directions for straightening the economy than Hoover. Of course, comparisons can only be drawn so much, as there is only so much information that can be gathered from Hoover’s time in the Office. He didn't attempt to do as much for the economy as Obama is.

Both presidents came into office and faced an economic problem. Hoover however faced a much more drastric situation. Unemployment sky rocketed under Hoover and Obama decreased it but only by a little. Although the stock market crash during Hoovers presidency was much worse than during Obama's this is not an excuse. Hoover bascically failed to help at all. He did not stop it from getting worse. He depended on the people to fix it when really it was his job to do so. Obama also increased the GDP and Hoover decreased it. Obama has done much more to try and improve the economy then Hoover did.

In this article I believe that Obama did more than Hoover did. However, it did take a long time for each of them to try and fix the situation. They both had policies that were questionable. The statics show that Obama did more to fix the problem than Hoover did. When Hoover was president, there was a much higher unemployment rate than in 2008. Overall, the article did a good job of comparing the two Presidents.

Through this article it shows the difference between the stock market and unemployment crises and comparing Obama and Hoover. Both presidents came into their presidency with an economic crisis and was their job to fix it. Most people thought it was all their faults but they were trying to solve the problem, however, they just weren't doing a good enough job in the peoples eyes. In my opinion Obama is doing more to solve the problem more than Hoover because Hoover was too full of himself that when people told him his plans weren't working and should try something else he wouldn't believe them. In conclusion, Obama is a better president than Hoover because of his efforts in helping try to stop the crisis even though he walked into it and wasn't his fault.

This article regarding the difference between Hoover and Obama has some key points, however, I don't believe they are in similar situations because the great depression had a worse impact on the economy than how they economy is today. In the article, it talks about the similar problems that each president faced during their time in office. Specifically it talks about the GDP and employment levels. During Hoover presidency, unemployment levels hit as high as 23.5% and the average GDP was -6.4. However during Obama's presidency, the unemployment levels has actually decreased and the average GDP was +1.9. This shows that levels were not as bad now as they were during Hoovers presidency during the Great Depression.

After reading the article over Hoover vs. Obama, I now fully understand the similarities and differences between Hoover and Obama, and the things they faced. With prior knowledge, class discussion, and the information on the article, it seems like Hoover was faced with a more sudden and harmful depression and Obama was, and is currently faced with a more long term and pretty harmful recession. With Hoover, and the depression, he didn't do much to help relieve thee tension with banks and citizens. He also didn't take much action when the depression hit. One thing that Hoover did maintain, although, was a balanced economy after the depression. He also increased the GDP, as Obama did not. Obama, with his situation, has tried to take more action in helping the economy.

I thought this was a very interesting article. I have always been a supporter of Obama, but I did not realize what a huge impact he has made on our economy in comparison to the last president who faced similar circumstances, Hoover. It is incredible to see how much he has lowered unemployment, increased the GDP, and improved the stock market in comparison to Hoover. I do not think the situations are identical, but I do think they have a lot in common and therefore are comparable to a certain extent. After viewing this article I have a much different view of Obama and how he has changed our economy and helped our country.

After reading this article it makes it seem like president Obama has managed to handle the crisis he faced when he first came into office. I also understand that Hoover was faced with a sudden and more harmful depression. However, Hoover's policies were never successful. There have been successful policies by Obama. They are similar in many aspects. However, I was surprised to see how Obama raised the GDP and lowered the unemployment rate slightly. Any decrease in unemployment is a good thing. Obama's policies were a lot more effective, so that's why this recession was a recession rather than another depression.

It is very interesting to see a comparison between today's president, and Hoover, who was president during the Great Depression. While many critisize Obama for the lack of change he has made to America, in comparison to Hoover, he has made strides. We were in a recession, and they were in a depression. Obama improved the lives of many Americans, while Hoover did nearly nothing. Anything that gets jobs going, and puts a little more money in the pockets of the people is an improvement when recession calls.

The Hoover vs. Obama article discusses the differences between the stock market crash in Hoover's presidency and Obama's. They both went into their presidencies dealing with an economic crisis and they had to try to fix it. However, they were both different circumstances. In that, I think the stock market crash during Hoover's presidency was worse. They were both very different situations during different times. Hoover dealt with a Depression, and Obama dealt with a recession. The unemployment rate during Hoover's presidency was much greater than Obama had to deal with. It was interesting to see how differently the presidents reacted to the whole different downfalls.

Personally, this article taught me that Obama has done more than Hoover ever did. This article compares Obama and Hoover and discusses the economy during each of their presidency. They both had to face many difficulties because it was their job to fix the economy. This article explains how Obama has actually tried to do something while Hoover did absolutely nothing. Hoover just expected the people to solve the economic crisis. Obama also increased the GDP and Hoover decreased it. Obama's policies have been successful, unlike Hoover's policies.

I was very surprised by how similar President Obama and President Hoover are and how similar they were in the actions they took in dealing with their different crises. The situations each president had to address were somewhat similar, although, the circumstances were much different. Hoover had to deal with the stock market crash and the vanishing of money from the economy while Obama’s major issues were world industrial production, world trade, and worldwide equity. Both presidents created policies and programs that were for the most part ineffective. Obama’s policies are blamed for the slow recovery and Hoover himself was directly blamed for the slow recovery. In terms of unemployment, GDP, and Dow Jones stock market the two presidents are complete opposites. Unemployment increased, GDP decreased, and the value of stocks decreased during Hoover’s presidency. Vice versa goes for Obama. Both presidents tried to lead based on their personal beliefs about what should and shouldn’t be done and this practices has proved to be for the most part ineffective.

When I had read this article I felt as if the two presidents were strangely similar because of the ways they approached their different crises. I strongly think that Obama and Hoover were just president at the wrong time, if these crises had not of taken place then they would be an extraordinary presidents. The crises Hoover had to attack was the beginning of his term which was that he had to deal with the stock market crash and the disappearance of the economy's money. Then when Obama was elected he had to take on was world industrial production, world trade, and keeping the world fair. These two presidents had made policies and programs to try to fix these crises's. Now speaking of unemployment, GDP and Dow Jones stock market the two presidents are completely different. Unemployment increased, GDP decreased and the value of stocks decreased when Hoover had been elected. Same goes to Obama, both presidents tried to help how they believed it would about what should not be done and what should be.
